Retinoids, the active ingredient in Vitamin A, are more commonly known as Retinol in topical skin creams, lotions and ointments. Retinoids, whether synthetic or natural, have many important biological effects such as regulating growth and differentiation in cells, diminishing malignant cell growth and strengthening the immune system. Retinoid research has been done to verify its possible effects in combating acne. In addition to combating acne, studies have shown that retinoids can reduce and prevent wrinkles, brown spots and actinic keratoses.

Vitamin A was also found to have positive results when used as a treatment for stretch marks, psoriasis and lichen planus. Several studies have found that regular supplements of both vitamins A and E were associated with as much as a 70% reduced risk for basal cell carcinomas.

Wound healing is an important indicator of skin health. To enhance wound healing, it is important that patients receive adequate amounts of each vitamin. Individuals whose bodies are vitamin A deficient, experience diminished wound healing, which is correctable by vitamin A supplementation. Vitamin C is considered critical in wound healing because it acts as a cofactor for several enzymes, which stabilize collagen.

Vitamin A, C and E are only part of the solution. To fully enhance your skin from within, you will need to use products that offer a complete healthy combination of vitamins, amino acids and minerals. For true healthy skin, we recommend products that contain a healthy dose of such vitamins and minerals as:

Vitamin A Niacin (as niacinamide)

Vitamin C Folate

Vitamin D Biotin

Vitamin E Zinc

Vitamin B1 Selenium

Vitamin B2 Copper

Vitamin B6 Chromium

Vitamin B12 Pantothenic Acid

In addition to the above vitamins and minerals, any product one chooses should also have a healthy dose of key skin enhancing amino acids such as:

L-Lysine Hydrochloride

L-Cysteine

L-Arginine

L-Glutamine

Healthy skin is up to each of us to maintain.
